Receptionist FAM MED

The Receptionist isresponsible for providing general office support with a variety of clericalactivities and related tasks. The Receptionist will be responsible foranswering incoming calls, directing calls appropriately, registering patients,collecting co-pays, directing and scheduling patients and visitors, acting as aliaison between patients and medical support staff, as well as assistingpatients with check out. The Receptionist is also responsible for themanagement of medical records and coordination with others both within andoutside the organization and to assure that records are complete and accurate.These duties facilitate the sharing of medical records with other HIPAAcompliant providers and organizations.
Follow establishedpolicies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity toconfidential information.
Greets patientsand visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
Registerspatients, verifies and updates necessary information in medical record, asneeded and collects co-pays as appropriate.
Maintainsappointment schedule and follows office scheduling policies.
Answers telephone,directs calls and messages as appropriate, and provides information/routineinformation in accordance with established procedures, as needed.
Processes incomingand outgoing mail and correspondence.
Receives labreports, dictations, x-rays, and other reports both electronically and on paperand distributes appropriately.
Scans requireddocuments into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and indexes such documentsto the appropriate part of the EMR.
Purges obsoleterecords and records that have been scanned into the EMR and files themappropriately.
Retrieves recordsthat have been sent to storage as requested by the provider.
Sends requestedrecords, either through copying or electronically as appropriate, to otherproviders and other HIPAA-compliant agencies as requested.
Destroys outdatedrecords following established procedures for retention and destruction.
Maintains workarea in a neat and orderly manner.
Attends meetingsas required.
Maintainsconfidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Support theculture of service excellence throughout the organization.

Performs otherrelated duties as assigned or requested.
Completes annualeducational requirements.

Minimum Education High School Diploma or GED
Minimum WorkExperience One year experience working in customer service. Preferred: Oneyear experience in medical office setting Prior knowledge of medicalterminology Knowledge of Allscripts or similar EHR preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
